The origin of the Batavus brand dates back to 1904 when Andries Gaastra started producing bicycles in Heerenveen under the name 'Batavus.' Batavus was a pioneer in the development of lightweight and sporty bicycles. As the bicycle industry evolved, Batavus embraced new technologies and trends. In 1998, Batavus became the first to introduce an electric bike to the market, the Batavus E-go.
